Crate Training Dos and Don’ts

Crate training can be a valuable tool for providing your dog with a safe and secure space of their own, but it's essential to approach it with care and patience. Whether you're introducing a crate to a puppy or an adult dog, here are some dos and don'ts from our Genetic Canine team to keep in mind:

  • Introduce the crate gradually, allowing your dog to explore it at their own pace.

  • Make the crate a positive space by associating it with treats, toys, and meals.

  • Use the crate for short periods initially, gradually increasing the duration as your dog becomes more comfortable.

  • Ensure the crate is appropriately sized, providing enough room for your dog to stand up, turn around, and lie down comfortably.

  • Use the crate as a tool for housetraining, as dogs are less likely to eliminate in their sleeping area.

By following these dos and don'ts and approaching crate training with patience and positivity, you can create a safe and comfortable space for your dog to enjoy and have the security from Genetic Canine to provide you and your furry friend with the guidance they need!
